ARTIST INFO:
Anders Gustave Aldrin was born in Varnland, Sweden on August 29, 1889, into a family of ten children. He came from a long line of Swedish craftsmen. His father was opposed to impractical pursuits, so, in secret, Anders took a correspondence course in drawing and painting. Anders came to the United States and served in the U.S. Army during World War I. He contracted tuberculosis while serving in the Army, returning to the USA as a disabled veteran. He moved to California in 1922.
Anders studied at Otis Art Institute, Santa Barbara School of Art and the California School of Art in San Francisco. In 1983, Cucamonga Siding was selected Best of Show from over 3000 pieces in an exhibit. Millard Sheets said of Aldrin: “The work of this man is a declaration of independence from the style and manner of his contemporaries and is the most forthright work I have seen in California.”
Anders Aldrin was well known for his color wood block prints. Astronaut Buzz Aldrin is a nephew.
